<p>It seemed like just another typical day at the local department store for Chrissie – another Monday of showing customers the latest fashion designs and the hottest clothing lines for the upcoming summer season. Hour after hour, she gathered clothes from the hundreds of shiny metal racks and arranged them for customers who had no idea how to match a floral blouse with a pale yellow cardiganpullover. This was Chrissie’s life. And for the most part, she wouldn’t rather do anything else.</p>
<p>It was said that ever since Chrissie came on board, she practically lived at the department store. Never one to sit still, the young sales clerk was constantly removing leftover clothing from the dressing rooms and polishing the perfume and jewelry counters in an attempt to score a quick sale. Chrissie flew around the store from the time it opened until the final light switch flicked off, all while wearing the world’s biggest smile. It was hard to believe that there was not a spare bed in the break-room for her to sleep there at night!</p>
<p>But this Monday would be different. Something just wasn’t right about Chrissie. The store had been open for almost an hour before when typically punctual Chrissie came stumbling through the front doors. Try as Chrissie might to make a sly getaway towards the break-room without being noticed, the store’s manager immediately spotted her. She all but crumbled to the floor when her superior approached her by the lingerie section. Taken aback by Chrissie’s unusual behavior, the manager took a New York minute to glance at her frazzled state. Her hair – usually perfectly coiffed – was in a rat’s nest. Her pale face was accentuated by strikingly swollen cheeks which rose to meet her red, bloodshot eyes.</p>
<p>It was plain to see that Chrissie was a mess!</p>
<p>“Chrissie! What in the world is wrong with you?” the manager asked.</p>
<p>“I’m sorry. I didn’t leave here until late last night and I didn’t sleep well at all and then... well, and... uh... can we speak in your office?” Chrissie asked the manager.</p>
<p>Surprisingly, the manager granted Chrissie her wish. After all, she was the best employee in the store.
